Choosing a facility maintenance partner: an executive checklist
Published
RFPs often overweight price and underweight execution. Use this checklist to test coverage, governance, and reporting before you sign.
Price is easy; execution is the bet
The right partner reduces internal load, stabilizes outcomes, and makes spend explainable. The wrong partner trades a lower rate for invisible rework, after-hours chaos, and finance frustration.
Non-negotiable evaluation areas
- Real coverage evidence for your actual sites, not a national map graphic.
- Safety and compliance posture: training, insurance, and subcontractor controls.
- Reporting you will actually use: photos, notes, SLA metrics, and exportability.
Ask references the uncomfortable questions
How do they behave after-hours? How do they handle a repeated failure? How quickly do invoices reconcile to approved work? Answers there predict your next two years more than a slide deck.
